Turquoise-Glazed Tiles
Kashan, Iran, 13th century
Each of these turquoise-glazed tiles is crafted from the same mould, and perhaps formed part of an architectural frieze. The running bands of animals, a common motif in the Islamic world, seem to be griffins.
These tiles were crafted during the Ilkhanid period of the early-to-mid 13th century CE, most probably in Iran.
