    Teachers Tours

Tours of our permanent collection, special exhibitions and library are led by our experienced guides. Tours last for 30-40 minutes and are available from 9am – 11am on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

We ask that you have enough adult helpers with your group, with a ratio of 1:8 for primary schools and 1:15 for elementary/secondary schools. Tours must be booked at least one week in advance.

Permanent Gallery Tour (Grades 1-12)

If you have never been to our museum before, or are looking for a tour to inspire and support projects and classroom activities, then this is the tour for you! Join us as we explain the basis of Islamic Art and introduce you to the highlights of our collection. This tour complements the History & Citizenship and Art Curriculums particularly, as well as discussing subjects from the Mathematics and Science curriculums in terms of geometry and materials.

Science in Art (Grades 3-12)

This new tour has been designed to link with aspects of the Science Curriculum. Students will learn about science in Islamic civilisation by exploring MIA's scientific instruments, manuscripts and natural materials. These tours are designed as a starting point for further activities in the classroom.

Syria Matters (Grades 1 – 12)

From 22 November 2018 – 30 April 2019, we will be offering tours of our special exhibition, Syria Matters. This exhibition highlights Syria’s rich cultural heritage by taking you on a journey through five key historical moments, starting from the early pre-Islamic civilisations and ending with the bustling merchant cities of the Ottoman period. Through this, we illustrate Syria’s unique cultural heritage, illuminating its key role in artistic and intellectual world history and, at the same time, hoping to safeguard this irreplaceable legacy that is in such danger.
