Syrian Metalwork

Adults, MIA Auditorium

03 February, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Lecture with Dr Anton Pritula

In the medieval period, the technique of producing metalware in the Islamic world was more advanced than the European workshops. Its development was closely connected with migration of craftsmen, who were travelling from one Islamic land to another, transmitting their technological achievements. Many of these metalworkers left their names on the masterpieces they produced which enables us to reconstruct their biographies and to define the style of their workshops.
Dr Anton Pritula is the lead Researcher and Curator at the Oriental Department in the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. We are delighted to welcome him to MIA as a Visiting Scholar. Dr Pritula received his PhD from St Petersburg University in 2001 and has since published and lectured widely on a variety of Islamic art topics.
In English with Arabic translation.
