The exhibition sheds light on the pivotal role played by silk textiles during the Safavid period (c.1501–1736). It also sheds light on a very important period of Iranian history, during which Iran acquired a very distinct visual identity. The design course combined tradition and modernity with Islamic art and the result was producing stunning and innovative abayas and caftans that were displayed in the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) courtyard, as part of a special fashion show.

These pieces are now temporarily on display until 9 March 2024.
