Calling all Qatari artists: Are you over 18 and a practicing artist or designer? Apply for your chance to join the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) on a unique trip to the home of Islamic art and culture in Spain, Andalusia.

MIA invites Qatari artists and designers on a 12-day trip to Andalusia, Spain. Artists will be selected on specific criteria based around their artworks and an interview conducted by the host team.

The journey begins in Granada, home to Banu Al Ahmar and Alhambra Palace, a celebrated monument of Islamic architecture. The next city on the trip roadmap is Cordoba, which was the capital of the Umayyad dynasty in Andalusia. Here, our artists will discover the Mosque of Cordoba, which has always been a symbol of tolerance and coexistence between different cultures and religions in the region.

The itinerary also includes opportunities for the artists to participate in various workshops, including Islamic geometry, perfume making, studying ceramic tiles, studying ceramic tiles and leather engraving amongst other traditional Andalusian arts.

Eligibility

In order to be considered you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Qatari national
  2. Over 18 years old
  3. A practicing artist or designer
  4. Have some experience of exhibiting your work

Further considerations

After the educational trip, you will be required to produce 5 pieces for an exhibition to be held in September 2023.

You will also be asked to take part in a discussion panel, which will be open to the public, about the trip and your gained experiences, on a date to be determined.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Each person will receive ONE return flight to Madrid (Economy), no escorts are allowed.
  2. Single room for the duration of the trip in a 5-star or 4-star hotel.
  3. Entrance fees to all sites and workshops included.
  4. All transportation whilst in Andalusia is included.
  5. You will need to sign a multimedia release form to allow us to use images from the trip on social media, press and all QM websites.
