Ektashif Al-Andalus: About the Artists
Learn more about the ten Qatari artists featured in the Ektashif Al-Andalus exhibition.
A Qatari artist with a BFA in Graphic Design from VCU Qatar, Ghada specialises in digital art and has a keen interest in diverse artistic fields, including photography, murals, and fashion. She is currently also exploring traditional art, Islamic art, natural dyes and gilding.
Malak Al Julandani
A Qatari artist with a specialisation in art education at Qatar University. Malak has been passionate about various fine art fields since childhood, experimenting with diverse artistic media like pastels, charcoal, crayons, acrylics and more.
In her participation in the Ektashif Al-Andalus exhibition, Malak's primary focus was on painting and sculpture. Her work brought to life the arches reminiscent of Andalusia, drawing strong inspiration from both realist and impressionist schools.
Rouda Al-Suwaidi
As a Qatari fashion designer with a master’s degree in enterprise and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resources, Rouda embarked on her fashion design journey in 2020. She refined her artistic skills through active participation in numerous workshops and courses encompassing fashion and Islamic art.
Ahmed Nooh
Ahmad, a Qatari artist and member of the Qatari Fine Arts Society, has made a significant impact on the global art scene. He served as a resident artist at both the Doha Fire Station and the National City of Arts in Paris, amassing an impressive portfolio of local and international exhibitions.
Ahmad Nooh's art spans diverse materials, drawing inspiration from heritage, legacy and stories for his sculptures and ceramics. His passion for experimentation shines through as he utilises raw materials in abstract art to shape his creative vision. Notably, Ahmad Nooh's works adorn various private collections.
Fatma Almalki
Fatma is a Qatari visual artist and a member of the Qatari Fine Arts Society, and she has showcased her talent in numerous local and international exhibitions. In this show, her inspiration lies in the Alhambra Palace and its resplendent gardens. She was drawn to the intricate engravings adorning the palace walls, with their striking blue and green hues that symbolise the innovative irrigation techniques Muslims pioneered in Andalusia and the ensuing agricultural prosperity.
Fai Al-Buainain
A Qatari artist with a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture and design from Leeds Beckett University, UK, Fai opted to explore plaster as her primary medium for this exhibition. She discovered its potency in articulating her identity as both an artist and architect. Her creations draw inspiration from Islamic motifs, geometric forms, and calligraphic and Kufic inscriptions, which can be found on Alhambra's walls.
Kholood Al-Dosari
Kholood, a Qatari artist specialising in art education at Qatar University, is currently on a journey to define her unique artistic style that reflects her vision.
In this exhibition, Kholood recreates Islamic landmarks from Andalusia using various artistic techniques, including impressionism and realism. Her artworks also thoughtfully use color to capture the emotions she experienced during her visit.
Khalid AlJanahi
Khalid, a Qatari artist, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art education from Qatar University. Khalid's approach in his artworks often leans towards simplicity and flexibility, aiming to enable viewers to grasp the concept without the need for extensive explanations. In this exhibition, Khalid combines calligraphy with Andalusian geometric and floral motifs.
Jaber Henzab
A Qatari artist, Jaber, employs his imagination to express his vision through his artwork. Jaber's creations captivate viewers through storytelling and thought-provoking elements.
He shares his work on social media platforms and actively takes part in art exhibitions. Jaber has also been involved in many artistic projects, including collaborating with FIFA in the lead-up to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Noora Al-Melhim
Noora, a multidisciplinary Qatari designer, holds a master's degree in design studies and a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from VCU Qatar. Her work involves the crafting of prototypes using various media, including theoretical and digital forms. Noora's designs harmoniously meld sustainability with tradition, resulting in innovative and culturally rich creations. She has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions.
