During this trip, the selected artists visit cities and historical sites and engage in practical art workshops to learn more about traditional arts by expert craftsmen and artists. The purpose of the journey bridges communication between Qatar and the rest of the world which aims to establish close relations and strong ties in the world of Islamic art.
The group of Qatari artists will be selected based on their artwork and an interview to join the MIA team on a 9-day trip to Morocco at the end of April 2024.
The journey will begin in Marrakesh, exploring Moroccan architecture, and visiting Riad Karmela next to Ben Yousef Madrasa -- an authentic medieval medina from the 12th century. Other locations on the itinerary also include sight to the Traditional Arts consortium, Bahia Palace, the Jardin Majorelle, and a visit to the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and Saadian Tombs.
The selected artists will also participate and engage in workshops to master the traditional arts, such as geometry design and drawing, plaster carving, the Moroccan art forms of Zellige (Zellij) and Zouaq and ceramic workshops.
Eligibility
In order to be considered, you must meet the following criteria:
- Qatari
- Over 18 years old
- A practicing artist or designer
- Have some experience of exhibiting your work.
