In this lecture, titled From Srivijaya to the Abbasid Caliphate: The Belitung and Cirebon shipwrecks and maritime connectivity in the 9th and 10th centuries CE attendees, attendees will be able to explore the maritime connections from just over a thousand years ago between the Gulf region and the area today comprising the modern nation-state of Indonesia.

Guest speaker Dr Stephen Murphy will talk about the intriguing history behind two shipwrecks, the Belitung and the Cirebon. These wrecks help unravel the complexity of globalisation and interconnectivity in the ninth and tenth-century Indian Ocean world.
