This course explores the intricate relationship between Islamic art, fashion design, and the creation of the abayas and caftans. It is designed to empower aspiring fashion designers with the knowledge and skills needed to design abayas that embody contemporary elegance and functionality.
This course is in conjunction with Fashioning an Empire: Textiles, Trade, and Power in Safavid Iran exhibition at MIA. Students will get the chance to discover the exhibition and explore how the fashion of tradition and modernity can result in stunning and innovative fashion creations. In addition to that, students will have the chance to be part of a fashion show runway event and the course private exhibition for two weeks in MIA Atrium.
