Educational art trip to Turkey for Qatari Artists 

Eight Qatari artists will be chosen based on their portfolio and interview to join Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) staff on a seven-day trip to Istanbul.  The trip will visit sites of historic interest such as Aya Sofia, the Blue Mosque, Rustem Pasha Mosque, Yavuz Selim Mosque, Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, Yeni Valide Mosque and Topkapi Palace.  Each day will include a trip to a workshop to see traditional arts practiced in Turkey such as Iznik ceramics, Paper Marbling (Ebru), Islamic illumination, drawing on glass and much more.

Eligibility

In order to be considered you must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a Qatari citizen
2. Aged 18 or over
3. A practicing artist
4. Have some experience of exhibiting your work
5. Fully vaccinated against COVID-19

How to apply

The closing date is Thursday 2 September 2021. In order to apply, you must submit:
1. Five examples of work from your portfolio
2. Your CV
3. A copy of your passport
4. A COVID-19 vaccination certificate
5. An answer to these two questions (in writing):
• Describe yourself as an artist in 100 words
• How would winning this trip to Turkey impact your practice as an artist?

Expectations


• After the educational trip, you will be required to produce five pieces for an art exhibition at MIA or Ministry of Culture and Sports. The exhibition will take place in December 2021 or January 2022.
• You will also be asked to take part in a discussion panel, which will be open to the public, about the trip and your gained experiences, on a date to be determined.

Terms and Conditions


1. Each person will receive ONE return flight to Istanbul (Economy), no escorts are allowed.
2. Single room for the duration of the trip in a five-star hotel.
3. Only breakfast will be included every day.
4. Entrance fees to all sites and workshops included.
5. All transfers and transportation while in Istanbul is included.
6. Medical and travel insurance is NOT provided – you are strongly advised to purchase your own in advance.
7. You will need to sign a multimedia release form to allow us to use images from the trip on social media, press and website.

Educational Art trip to India for Qatari Artists 

This programme is generously sponsored by Seashore Group.

6 artists will be chosen based on their portfolio and interview to join MIA staff on a 10-day trip to India.  The trip will visit sites of historic interest such as the Qutub Minar and the Red Fort in Delhi, Amber Palace and Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, and the Red Fort and Taj Mahal in Agra.  Each day will include a trip to a workshop to see traditional arts practiced in India such as marble inlay, known as parchinkari, block printing, jewellery making, carpet weaving and more.

Eligibility
In order to be considered you must meet the following criteria:
1.    Qatari National
2.    Over 18 years old
3.    A practicing artist
4.    Have some experience of exhibiting your work

We ask that you have enough adult helpers with your group, with a ratio of 1:8 for primary schools and 1:15 for elementary/secondary schools. Tours must be booked at least one week in advance.

Permanent Gallery Tour (Grades 1-12)

If you have never been to our museum before, or are looking for a tour to inspire and support projects and classroom activities, then this is the tour for you! Join us as we explain the basis of Islamic Art and introduce you to the highlights of our collection. This tour complements the History & Citizenship and Art Curriculums particularly, as well as discussing subjects from the Mathematics and Science curriculums in terms of geometry and materials.

Science in Art (Grades 3-12)

This new tour has been designed to link with aspects of the Science Curriculum. Students will learn about science in Islamic civilisation by exploring MIA's scientific instruments, manuscripts and natural materials. These tours are designed as a starting point for further activities in the classroom.
