Explore MIA's Galleries through Colours, Shapes, Numbers and Alphabets

Grade/Age: Nursery - Kindergarten

KG students will explore the galleries through a simple lens of alphabets, numbers, colours or shapes. They will explore these elements outside the classroom and discover them in art. The gallery explorer includes educational soft play, flash cards, songs, discussion questions and acting/re-creating shapes.

MIA's Young Statisticians: Collecting & Analysing Information

Grade/Age: Grades 3-5

Allow your students to become museum statisticians! Students will apply their maths knowledge outside the classroom to understand how maths and statistics can be used in everyday life. While walking through our galleries, they will discover Islamic art objects and collect and analyse data about objects and visitors in order to draw conclusions.

Arabic alphabet accents (Harakat): Exploring Harakat and Hamza through Islamic Art

Grade/Age: Grades 3-5

In this gallery explorer, students will discover Arabic letters and accents as a form of art and learn to identify different types of accents (Harakat and Hamza) in several manuscripts. They will visit the Qur’an gallery for a worksheet-based activity to formalise and help the students recognise the different accents – how to use them and when. They will work in teams or as individuals to present and highlight the importance of Arabic language in Islamic art based on an object of their choice.

Where in the World? Using and Understanding Longitude and Latitude

Grade/Age: Grades 3-5

Students will learn to identify where objects come from and locate the countries around the world using maps. Then students will take a closer look at the astrolabe to understand when and how it was used in the past. In addition, students will work in groups to understand and practice longitude and latitude, learning and how to write the line names and their correct locations (horizontal and vertical).

Treasure Hunt: Let’s Explore Trading in the Islamic World!

Grade/Age: Grades 4 -8

In our most famous programme, students discover the historical trading line and different types of products, currencies and transportation in the Islamic world. They will work in groups and have a challenge to find the answer to win the treasure hunt trail. The activity and worksheets will be linked to national curriculum and Islamic art objects from the galleries to familiarise students with the collection and to develop a lifelong interest in art and museums.
