Kindergarten to Grade 1

Kindergarten students will explore MIA’s exhibition halls observing colours and shapes as they are guided through. Children will be able to explore these elements outside a classroom setting and locate them on the artworks.

Primary School (Grades 2 to 4)

Students explore the exhibition halls in a simple way that involves observing the artworks. The activity is an exploratory tour of the exhibition halls.

Primary School (Grades 3 to 5)

In this activity, students take mathematics beyond the classroom and into the museum, discovering how data collection and statistics can be used to understand the world around us. Students explore the galleries of the museum and discover a selection of Islamic Art objects before collecting real data about the objects and museum visitors. They then use their mathematical skills to organise and analyse the data, draw conclusions, and identify meaningful insights.

Primary School (Grades 1 to 3)

In this activity, students explore the beauty of Arabic calligraphy, including its diacritical marks, vowel points, and hamzas, through a selection of manuscripts and artworks in the Museum of Islamic Art. They learn how to use these marks and practice the correct pronunciation of Arabic words. The students then proceed to the Qur'an gallery to explore the manuscripts and apply their learning through an interactive worksheet. Finally, the students work individually or in groups to select a masterpiece and highlight the role and significance of the Arabic language in Islamic art.

Primary School (Grades 4 to 7)

Working in teams, students challenge each other to find information and answer a series of questions and puzzles, ultimately discovering the treasure and completing the challenge. The activities and worksheets are linked to the curriculum and the museum's collection, allowing students to learn from original artefacts and cultivate their interest in art, history, and museums.

Secondary School (Grades 8 to 12)

Students embark on an exploratory journey inspired by the travels of the Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta, tracing his routes from North Africa to the Arabian Peninsula by exploring a selection of artefacts from the Museum of Islamic Art. Through various stations and points of discovery within the museum, students learn about different aspects of life, culture, and intercultural exchange in the Islamic world, discovering how travel can be a means of learning, acquiring knowledge, and understanding diverse cultures. This activity fosters curiosity, a thirst for knowledge, and encourages students to view the museum as a space for discovery, inquiry, and the construction of knowledge.

Secondary School (Grades 9 to 12)

In this activity, students explore the galleries of the Museum of Islamic Art to gather ideas and information inspired by its collection. They then write, plan, organise, compose, and use their creative skills to transform their discoveries into a narrative or theatrical text. Working in groups, students develop their ideas and write their scripts, which they then present in a theatrical performance within the museum, drawing inspiration for stories, characters, and themes from the museum's collection

Secondary School (Grades 9 to 12)

In this programme, students explore the relationship between Islamic art, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) through selected artefacts from the Museum of Islamic Art. They reflect on elements of Islamic art, such as geometric patterns, calligraphy, and floral motifs, and then use AI tools to explore ideas and designs inspired by these elements. Students learn how AI can be a tool for creativity and exploration, while developing their ability to ask questions, analyse results, and discuss the role of humans in guiding technology and making creative decisions.
